A visual representation of Expression of the Soul: We identify it when the celebrated cellist puts his heart in it, when the sirenic singer gives it her all, when the intentional soul prays earnestly. The text of Psalm 126, one of the “Psalms of Ascent”—which were used in ancient times during celebration and journey—is interwoven in the rising, ephemeral spirals to reference the yearning ecstasy of sorrow and joy expressed by the soul in transformational materializing, in its fruition in goodness, beauty, justice and peace.
“When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion we were like men who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations, “the Lord has done great things for them.”
The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like streams in the Negev.
Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy.
He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow,
Will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.”
The piece is currently on exhibition at Jack London Square through mid–March 2009.
